Safety First When Dealing with Any and All Electrical Connections

If you are making any kind of an electrical wiring repair using wire nuts, always apply a small piece of electrical tape to the base of the nut securing the tape around the wires, holding the nut in place.

No More Dryer Sheets OR Fabric Softener.

Here is a great suggestion for anyone who is concerned about the cost, mess and/or quality of commercially purchased dryer sheets or fabric softeners:

Get a bowl, an old hand towel. Soak the hand towel in fabric softener. Squeeze out any remaining drops from the towel.

Stain Removal Chart

I’m not necessarily promoting Oxi-Clean but I have found their stain removal chart very helpful. They have 22 specific stains listed including all the tough ones that many people have asked me about such as BBQ sauce, blood, chocolate, coffee, ink, ketchup, lip stick, and wine. They also list 10 different materials the stain can be found in including cotton, nylon, polyester, and rayon. They use a very comprehensive list compared to many I’ve seen and it is extremely easy to use. Of course OxiClean they are promoting their own product as the cure all but hey, if it works it is awesome!

Fabric Softner Alternative

No More Dryer Sheets OR Fabric Softener.

When I began running low on liquid fabric softener, I grabbed a bowl, an old hand towel and began an experiment. It worked so well that I felt compelled to share it with all of you. By the way… since using this towel, I have said good-bye to dryer sheets AND fabric softener.

Seriously.. it’s magical!

Lint Not the Only Dryer Fire Pyro!

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission Dryer Fire Report, lint plugging a dryer vent is only one of several sources of dryer fires. Failure of thermostat and limit switches inside the dryer, lint inside the dryer, a missing or damaged lint screen, and a crushed hose behind the dryer can also trigger a fire. Lint builds up more easily in longer vents, or those with curves or elbows. Empty the lint screen after every load. Frequently vacuum out area under the lint trap. It is suggested that typical vents should be cleaned every 2-3 years. If your dryer is not drying efficiently, get service to investigate the possibility of other problems that could also be a fire hazard. Call our parts department (410) 682-3232 extension 100 with the make and model number, to order a new dryer screen that can be shipped directly to you. “An ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure”!
