Hard Water Vs. Soft Water

What's all the fuss (and what's the difference)????

The major focus surrounding large household appliances is on Energy Efficiency standards and the environment (think HE detergents),the quality of water has taken on greater significance over the last twenty years.

Appliances and their electronic controls

The times, they are a changin!

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last twenty years, you have experienced the massive shift in major appliances going from electro-mechanical controls to straight electronic controls. No appliance on the market today has been left untouched by this electronic control craze. Boards, boards and more boards! The two legitimate arguments FOR these changes, and granted they are legitimate are: 1) More cycle options can now be offered to consumers. 2) Energy use standards have decreased energy consumption.

My rebuttal to these two issues are simple 1) the vast majority of customers don’t care about or use the options provided on their appliances. Because we are creatures of habit, most of us use 1-2 cycles. That’s it!   And 2) Although consumers spend less on energy we have to replace the appliances twice as often (or worse) so our out of pocket costs are much higher over the life of the appliance.

Does it make a difference in who you hire to repair your broken appliance?

YES, it does!!! All companies are not alike …

How important are professionalism, honesty, speed, efficiency, experienced and considerate technicians, and a money back guarantee, among other things?

Robotics will take over home building industry

Don't laugh until you watch this video

http://www.blueprint-robotics.com/video

This process is amazing! I have not spoken to anyone that has actually purchased a home built by robots. However there are several compelling reasons why this makes total sense. First is the time line. Most new custom homes are built over many months, frustrating the new home owners, who have to have alternative living arrangements while waiting for the completion of their new home. The second reason is cost. I have been told by someone who has run the numbers that a house priced out for build by a custom home builder in a line item by line item check list compared to this companies robotics built home was over $100,000.00 less! And last is the efficiency. Although robots can make errors they are usually far less substantial or costly than human error not to mention the multiple humans that will be working on your new custom home, further increasing the risk of errors.

Old Wringer Washer

I"m glad we don't have to do wash using these any longer!

The wringer washer has been around since the 1700's! There are a large number of patents from the late 1700's and 1800's with designs that used hard wooden rollers held together by a basic frame and an arrangement of springs. But the real explosion of the design started to happen in the mid to late 1800's with reportedly over 1000 small manufacturers producing all types of wringer washers throughout the United States. The early 1900's saw brands and options using names such as the Anchor Brand, American Mangle, Lovell Wringer Bench, Rue, and my favorite the Nineteen Hundred Electric Save Womens Lives Washer (I'm not kidding)! Fred Maytag, who had been producing farm equipment since 1893 introduced his own wringer design called the Pastime, in 1907. In fact Maytag continued making wringer washers until 1983 ( click here to see the Maytag history of wringer washers http://www.maytagclub.com/page-16.htm), the model E2LS! I remember working on these and other earlier model Maytag machines in the mid 70's when I started in the service business. Stop by our store and you can look over the two old wringers we have on display.
