Spring Clean Your Front-Load Washing Machine

Whether you are reading this in the spring or any other time of year, it’s good to spring clean your front-loading washing machine now and then.

Is it time for spring cleaning? Whether you are reading this in the spring or any other time of year, it’s good to spring clean your front-loading washing machine now and then. If it’s been a while since you’ve made your washer smell and look fresh and new, keep reading below to get these results!

Wipe Down the Washing Machine’s Door

The glass doors of front-load washers can get caked in a film of lint over time on the outside and inside. It may take some elbow grease to get all the scum off both sides, but it is worth it. Your machine and clothing will be free of lint from dirty doors.

Wipe Down the Outside and Around It

Although it is not as necessary, cleaning the outside of the washing machine will help it stay dust and dirt-free. Besides, a washing machine that’s clean on the outside and inside is a good thing. Vacuum, sweep, and mop the floor around the machine to get rid of nasty dust bunnies.

Run a Cleaning Solution through the Machine

Now that you have dealt with the exterior elements, what about the interior? Pour some white vinegar or a commercial washing machine cleaning solution into the laundry detergent dispenser and run a hot cycle with nothing in the barrel. You can also use white vinegar mixed with baking soda and lemon juice.

Clean the Dispenser

You can also deep-clean the laundry detergent dispenser. Remove it completely from the washing machine (when it is not running) and wash it in hot water in the sink. Allow it to dry completely before replacing it.

Let the Washer Totally Dry

Allow the front-loading washing machine to dry entirely after you have run a hot cycle or any wash cycle. Front-load washing machines are great at cleaning clothing, but they have a higher risk of mold growth than top-loaders

Clean the Gaskets

Wipe the gasket, the rubber material around the perimeter of the door, to remove any gunk stuck on or under it. That’s all you need to spring-clean your front-loading washing machine!
